The personnel who provides the product management and the back-office areas for deposit / investment fund administration must be a specialized one, possessing specific legislative knowledge and able to apply them correctly and consistently.

The main tasks of the Depositary are:

  • Certification of asset fund calculations;
  • Monitoring all assets of an investment fund;
  • Monitoring the legal compliance by the Administrators;
  • Monitoring all fund operations to ensure compliance with the legal and internal regulations.

The main tasks of the back-office for SAI are:

  • Calculation of assets for investment funds and determination of the value of unit assets to which transactions are carried out with fund units;
  • Transaction processing of financial instruments;
  • Reporting assets and liabilities for funds.

Target group

The course is addressed to:

The staff of banks holding the depository function (there are 6 banks registered in the FSA Register as depository) both for the operational and product management activity;

Executive staff of investment companies managing investment funds (there are 19 investment companies registered in the FSA Register);

Experience Level for the described activity: Entry or Middle Level.

However, the course may also be addressed to the staff belonging to distributors of fund units issued by investment funds.

Course objectives

Main objectives to be achieved at the end of the program:

  • Understanding the legal framework applicable to collective investment undertakings;
  • Accurate evaluation of the assets of collective investment undertakings;
  • Understand and accurate application of the effective operational flows to reduce operational and legal risks.

Subjects

  1. Presentation on the Romanian investment fund market;
  2. Introduction on the legal framework applicable to investment funds;
  3. Analysis of the constituent documents regarding investment funds;
  4. Tasks of the depositary staff vs those of SAI staff regarding the valuation and monitoring of the assets for investment funds;
  5. Financial instruments eligible for investment funds;
  6. Evaluation of financial instruments in the portfolio of investment funds;
  7. Calculation and certification of net asset unit value;
  8. Monitoring the assets of an investment fund;
  9. Case studies

Trainer

Mihaela UNGUREANU has more than 10 years’ experience in the investment funds field. Mihaela is a graduate of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration - Specialization Banks and Stock Exchanges, Al. I. CUZA University of Iasi, and Erasmus University of Poitiers, France, where she attended courses regarding Financial Strategies - Financial Markets and Investment Funds.
